Warehousing

Upgrade your hardware, Increase warehousing productivity.

Warehouse productivity is controlled by a number of factors, such as the number of employees you have and the effort they put in; but by far the biggest factor in warehouse productivity is the technology you use to run it. Without adequate technology to help you run your business, you will face unnecessary hardships such as difficulties with managing stock or tracking items.

How can improving warehouse technology improve productivity?

Most warehouses currently use barcoding technology to keep track of inventory, but many businesses are now switching to RFID technology. RFID provides many benefits over barcoding, such as: not requiring a line of sight to a tag, having a much further range, and being capable of storing much more data than barcodes. In Walmart’s warehouses, they found that on average they could process 209 items tagged with barcodes per hour, but with RFID that was increased to 4,767 items per hour, which is an increase of over 2000%!

Improvements to network infrastructure can decrease disruptions you encounter in the workplace drastically. Warehouses are typically huge, with high ceilings, and rows of goods creating aisles that block WiFi signal. As a result, access point placements in warehouses can be very challenging, so it is a good idea to have a site survey before implementing network infrastructure. Experiencing connection issues can be time-consuming to rectify, so solutions like wireless access point addition or even point-to-point WiFi are great options.

Faster network infrastructure means employees can spend more time doing their job – and less time waiting for information to be sent, or for devices to connect. Fibre optic installations are a great option for large warehouses with a lot of network traffic, as fibre optic is significantly faster than copper cable. Structured cabling can also be beneficial to improve network speed, as the efficiency of the network can often be improved.
